Economic Roundtable with MP Blake Richards
Join Blake Richards, MP, Banff-Airdrie for a Roundtable discussion on the state of our economy. This session will focus on the fiscal and economic policies needed to strengthen our local, provincial and national economies, to promote job growth and get Canadians back to work.
In the last month alone, 31,200 Canadians lost their jobs. The unemployment rate spiked to 6.9 percent. Investor confidence is rapidly declining and our ability to get our oil and gas resources to new markets is caught up in more red tape as the Liberal government waffles in its attempts to change the National Energy Board (NEB) pipeline review process.
This economic reality was set in motion when the Liberal government released its first budget spending nearly three times what was promised, almost $30 billion in borrowed money this year alone. Since that time, the current government has eliminated tax credits for families and students, raised taxes on small businesses and individuals, including a hike to CPP tax that will cost many workers and local businesses thousands of dollars more each year.
Ensuring the right economic policies are in place for Canadians is critical, particularly here in Alberta, as we struggle through a prolonged period of low oil and commodity prices and increased provincial pressures. Please join in the discussion and share your thoughts and ideas.
